I have always been a bit of a cynic when it comes to motivational speaking and self-help books and what not. But for some reason I am changing my mind.
These `Edutainers’ as they call themselves genuinely lift the mood at corporate functions. Hopefully this mood gets carried through to actual improved performance, but there is a lot to be said for the value of the good mood itself. Buhle Dlamini (www.youngable.com) is just such a speaker. I have just got home from a roadshow through Limpopo where we shared a speaking platform. People lapped him up, that sat forward in their chairs, they smiled. These are not people who were by nature an emotionally responsive audience… but respond they did.
Like watching `A Beautiful Mind’ or `Good Will Hunting’, their spirits were raised and I can’t help but believe this is a fantastic way to start the year.
