Emotional Intelligence or maturity takes effort.
Learning to accept criticism, agree with some of it and work on it, disagree with some of it and not let it gnaw at you. I think this also goes hand in hand with the ability to give good feedback, both in a work and a personal context. It is not easy to give constructive negative feedback... and normally we don't even think of giving positive feedback.
But even if you are good at giving feedback/being honest... sometimes it is not what people want. To accept it, you need EQ, and EQ takes work.
Is everyone capable of developing EQ to a point where they can `handle the truth'?
Or, like IQ, can you just make the best of what you've got?
