I see no interesting intrinsic moral distinction between brick- and other forms of laying.
hmmmm....
As for me, I still feel it isn't something you should pay for. Why? It just feels that way.
I find the argument that high-level prostitution is acceptable more convincing. Acceptable, but not desirable. But for whatever reason, the idea of someone selling there labour laying bricks DOES seem different to selling their labour laying .icks.
It seems to me easier to say, I had a crap job laying bricks but things got better.
Even though I am not convinced that it is fine, I do think legalising it would help protect some of the women who get severely abused through the system.
For those who wander why I am talking about prostitution, the one thing distracting Americans from the Itchy (Obama) & Scratchy (Clinton) Show is that the governor of New York Eliot Spitzer has resigned over accusations of prostitution.

I'm not sure I understand you, you saying that it should be illegal, or just that it's immoral?
they're not really accusations, he's admitted it an all.
You often say wander when maybe you mean wonder?
Maybe I am wandering through my mind and so it is a synonym...
Thank you Mr Torr, I will correct that.
Intellectually I don't think it is immoral. Something grates me about it.
If I knew for certain that the woman (or man) selling the sex, felt completely empowered, did not feel degraded, and was being paid `adequately'... then I don't think it is immoral... it is just a choice. Kind of like swearing or not swearing. (? hmmm could probably come up with a better comparison but I am tired)
I think it should be legal. I think it would be far easier to control that way... compulsory testing etc.
Ja, they aren't accusations any more... you are right.
for my part, I think its a moral intuition that should be subjected to a lot of scrutiny.
It somehow feels irreversible too, in some way.
If you decided it was fine to pay for sex, and did it once... What would stop you from doing it every night? Cost maybe, so would you just go cheaper? Then end up going to the very low end which is where I have the greatest `moral hunch' that something is wrong.
Sex can presumably (:-)) become a VERY large driving force in someones life, and left unchecked become an obsession that can destroy relationships, working environment, and a lot of other things.
I just doubt the control element. Yes, lots of people can control themselves... but.
I guess I have similar though different concerns with alcohol and gambling.
At what point do we look at the Domestic Workers blowing their salaries at the casino and say... wait a minute.
At what point (if legal) do we look at people `boosting' low income workers salaries by generously giving them R20 for sex?
Don't get me wrong... I don't think this justifies making prostitution illegal, and I do question what right government has to police adults...
But...
Sometimes you get that feeling that some people need to be protected... despite themselves.
I think I may have mixed up a few points here, but this is a blog, not an academic essay.
