SA are number 1!

IOL reports:
South Africa rode on an unbeaten half-century by Graeme Smith to thrash Bangladesh by seven wickets and become the top-ranked one-day side in the world on Friday.

A what a triumphant, symbolic way to get there: beating Bangladesh!

Symbolic I guess since we lost out position to Aus a year ago when we lost to Bangladesh.

Don't be such a cynic Mr Torr...

It isn't just this game that got us there, we have been doing consistently well (other than the World Cup Semi-Final and the game against Bangladesh) for a long time.

I will grant you Mr Hayden hit amazing form in the World Cup, and Aus were dominant... but we have been matching them pound for pound over the last couple of years.

Yeah, I know.
Let's do it in test cricket and then I'll get really excited.

As long as you are just a little excited about this, I am happy.

I also prefer Test Cricket, but to be honest more intellectually than as a spectacle.

I know it takes more skill, but the exciting sessions are few and far between. Test cricket is mainly about stats.

Thing is, one day cricket is supposed to be more about fun... but Twenty20 is more fun.

Does One Day get the right balance, your ambivalence to the rankings suggests not.

So maybe we should just get rid of One-Day cricket, and have just Tests and Twenty20?

I actually find test cricket more exciting. Weird, I know.

I don't see why it's about stats any more than one day cricket. And I actually don't see why it takes more skill. The skills required are just different.

For some reason, I've never been much of a one day fan. There used to lots of really boring one day games, but that seems to have changed a bit in the last 10 years or so.

I haven't watched enough 20-20 to have an opinion on whether it's better or worse than one day.

Why does test cricket require more skill?

It wasn't just the match against Aus in the world cup (which was humiliating), we lost to them twice and almost pulled off the most stunningly pathetic collapse in cricketing history.

1 day cricket has noise.

You are going to have humiliating defeats along the way. We could have easily won the first game against Aus... remember the bloody cramps!
