Magic

I went to watch `Death Defying Acts' this afternoon.

One thing, like yesterdays post, stood out for me again. Harry Houdini was a magician but he spent 5 years studying locks, and hours doing physical training. If the movie is to be believed, at one stage he was running 10 hours a day, then doing weights.

We all know that David Blane and Harry Houdini aren't/weren't genuinely doing anything impossible. But to us it was.

We can't explain it. Therefore it is impossible. This is faulty logic.

Lance Armstrong didn't win 7 tours in a row easily. He did it by pushing himself to the edge of the pain barrier more often than his competitors, and training when his competitors didn't.

The nice thing with the intellectual world, is that we get to benefit from past intellects pushing themselves to those barriers so we don't have to. But, if we want to push further... and add value, then we have to really want it.
