Engaging Engagers

Great teachers are rare. That is why I get excited about things like www.khanacademy.org/ and the work Google, Wikipedia, Massive Open Online Course and others are doing in making the worlds information available. While some teachers may be intimidated by students they can't know that they know more than (in the sense that a Google check is at their finger tips)... it does free a teachers up to become an inspirer, a coach and a remover of obstacles. It also scales great teaching. If a great teacher is there to light a spark rather than being required to walk hand in hand with a student, the really great teachers can become more mobile. They can spend a little time with lots of people in person, and a lot of time with lots of people online.

I thought this clip from Chris Emdin was pretty awesome. If this dude had been my teacher, I would have got excited about learning.
