Paris

One fifth of the population of France (about 12 million people) live in the continuous Urban Area around Paris. I love cities. I love the way they bring masses of people with very different views into one space and create connections. Paris and London have lots of similar flavours. A big river through the centre. Grand old buildings. Parks. Museums. The glue is different. Yellow post boxes like heads on sticks. Curvy street lights. Cars on the right. Angular street corners. The mix of people and a French twist - the other colonial power having created different connections to different corners of the world. Two sides of the channel creating an English speaking and French speaking world. Neighbouring cities 2 hours apart. Different worlds if you like. Same world if you love.

Visits to Paris in 1999, 2010, 2013 and 2016
