I am a Soutie. One foot in South Africa, and one foot in the United Kingdom. These two places, where I have lived the longest, are full of cats. The one life lesson I have the most conviction in, is 'Don't try herd cats'. This idea of a 'the people' that agree is clearly pushed by people who forget the disagreements in their own families. At some point, we need to let go of the idea of visions and ideologies. Instead of selling a solution, we can get better at conversation and accommodation. Change starts from where things are. Not from where we want things to be. We don't need to convince people that we are right in Liberal Democracies. If you aren't harming anybody else, all you need to do is find people who agree with you, and crack on with whatever it is you think needs to be done. If you think cats need herding, you are are going to get scratched.
