Wealth compounds. There is a fundamental divide between those who live hand-to-mouth, and those who each year, have more than the last. The pumping heart of Capitalism isn't profit, it is reinvestment. Profit eaten doesn't grow. A Universal Basic Income is often criticised as a hand-out, anti-capitalist, or anti-work ethic. It is the opposite. The vast majority of people have no choice but to eat what they earn. If everyone had a stake in society that covered their Basic needs, at a stroke everyone could start to build Capital. A UBI makes everyone a shareholder of the community. Everyone could have the option of reinvestment. The option of being a Custodian rather than a Consumer. The option of building. We don't have to spend the product of our labour. We can invest it. We can put it to work to set our labour free.
