Good, Bad & Ugly

I flew to Cape Town today on 1Time. As we got on the plane, there were bottles of water from ABSA on ours chairs. This is great. You pay for stuff on 1Time so getting something for free is great and they got brownie points. But then the plane took off and over the sound system came an ABSA advert – brownie points gone. I don’t want to be forced to listen to an advert while flying a plane.

I then went to get into my rental car and there sat the reason I use Imperial… the mints. I think the price of Imperial and the other Rental Agencies are the same, but I like Imperial because of the mints. Loyalty at a cost of R3.

Leaving the airport I saw the FNB countdown till the start of the 2010 World Cup… always gets a second look.

With increasing ability to ignore ads, companies have to get cleverer. Mints, water and things of interest work – shoving adverts down my throat when I am forced to listen just irritates me.

I heard some muttering that they want to place ads at the start of a call you make (in the US I think), then they would pay for your call.
