Another of my favourite paintings, this time by Theodore Gericault. This one is huge in reality and is pretty amazing when you see the actual painting at the Louvre.
I normally prefer abstract expressionist stuff, but this one is intense.
The story behind the painting is of s shipwreck where the survivors clung to life and hope for a number of days before being rescued. A number died while waiting.
