405 - 0

Not a bad first day of the 2nd Test Match: SA vs. Bangladesh.

Smith 223* (254) McKenzie 169* (288)

Smith's 4th double century and McKenzie's first century in 7 years. They are 9 runs off the biggest ever opening partnership which was achieved a number of years ago.

It is easy to dismiss this achievement. It is against `lowly' Bangladesh, but this is the same team that got a first innings lead on us in the first test. It is also a team that is on the up and gave Australia a run in one of the games of their recent series.

It also reminds me of long days fielding... today could not have been a fun day to be a Bangladeshi Test Cricketer

You're right!

It is easy to dismiss the significance of this achievement!

Well... they ended up breaking the 53 year old World Record. Bangladesh have been playing for a while. All the major nations have played them. Zimbabwe played test criket AND Sri Lanka took a while to become test quality... so the opportunities for other teams to do the same have been there.

I think it is impressive.

Cricket is made up of all sorts of records, so they are often broken but I will not be suprised if this one stays for a while.

The track was also not completely flat since we went on to lose 7 wickets for only 170 runs or so.
