Mystic River

Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Kevin Bacon, Laurence Fishbourne, Marcia Gay Harden Laura Linney

Just watched this movie again. It is pretty amazing. As I have said before, I am not sure though how they figure out who is an actor and who is a supporting actor.

Here Robbins won Best Supporting and Penn won Best Actor. I think Robbins had a bigger role, and in this case Penn wasn't the protaganist (since it was an ensemble cast) so that couldn't have been the criteria.

Despite thinking this movie was really good when I saw it the first time, I was actually not happy that Penn won best actor. It was released the same year as the first `Pirates of the Carribean' in which I thought Johnny Depp was sublime. The fact that the two sequels were crap is irrelevant.

Anyway, I think there is a bias in the academy awards towards `shock' roles. When last did an actor in a comedy win the Best Actor award?

see my comment below.

Mystic River is one of my very favourite movies. No. 1 on some days even. Clint Eastwood is a real hero.

I am VERY aware of that.

Odd that the two actors got the awards, and not him. Can't remember which movie won best film, or who won best director.

But it is a good example of the random nature of the awards.
