Life can become a bit of a pissing contest. One of the reasons public speaking at school is such a nightmare for so many people is you are being judged. The content isn't the thing that is important, it is how well you deliver it. Often the classmates listening are there because they have to be. The true magic happens when everyone who is there wants to be there. When everyone who is there is far more interested in the content than success, hierarchy or anything to do with who is smart or stupid. Meritocracy is a double-edged sword. It leaves us constantly worried about whether we deserve to be where we are. Signalling our intelligence. Earning our place. Add Trust. Add Love. Add Commitment. Then you won't feel like your bladder is about to burst.
