Price is simply a clearing mechanism. Supply and demand are the brutal
price setters. This means defining your source of income in a fixed way is
incredibly dangerous. You don’t know at the start of your career how those
forces are going to throw you around in their storms. There simply has to be
flexibility. A way to surrender into the chaos should it come. For the vast
majority of people, work is a funding device for their expenses. What comes in
goes out. A Buffer can allow some give should creative destruction provide a
solution that doesn’t include you. An Engine can allow you to focus on
something that isn’t subject to the master winds of supply and demand. A Buffer
is enough Capital to buy you time to breathe and reskill. To change direction.
An Engine earns more (on average) than you spend (on average) and can set you
free to focus on value. A salary is the price of your labour. Price is not
value. You determine value. Not supply. Not demand. You.
