I definitely think the idea of retirement makes little sense to me. I prefer the idea of financial independence. You have to accept that you are going to have to do some work, and want to do other work. As you get closer to the goal of financial independence, you can increase the amount of work you like doing, and decrease the amount of work you don't like doing. Eventually the lines between the two fade, and you are independent and doing what you love.
For the lucky (or hardworking to get lucky), maybe you get to do that early on and do what you love all the time. For most people, there is likely a degree of just sucking it up, and getting on with it. But I reckon you should do something you love every day.
